The Face of Imperialism (Book Review)

Michael Parenti is an internationally known award-winning author and lecturer. He is one of the nation’s leading progressive political analysts. His highly informative and entertaining books and talks have reached a wide range of audiences around the world. One of those books was written in 2011 and it provides an important perspective for understanding imperialism in the 21st century, “The Face of Imperialism”.

The book provides a really good analysis of the relationship between U.S. economic and military power. Parenti documents how U.S. imperialism in the 21st century promotes unjust policies across the globe including expropriation of natural resources, privatization, debt burdens, and suppression of democratic movements. All of this feeds into the deteriorating living standards within the U.S., leading to poverty, decaying infrastructure, and impending ecological disaster.

Fellow comrade Radical Reviewer and myself worked together to produce a book review of Parenti’s The Face of Imperialism. We both found the book valuable. Radical Reviewer is a YouTuber who produces book reviews of leftist literature, a great resource for people looking for books with a leftist perspective. In my opinion, the books he covers are all must reads. I’ve used his YouTube channel many times to get different perspectives of books I’ve read but also to learn about new books I might be interested in. He covers literature like the Communist Manifesto, Imperialism: The Highest Stage of Capitalism, The Conquest of Bread, The Shock Doctrine, Death of the Liberal Class, A People’s History of the United States, and so much more! Check out his videos, watch a few and see if you enjoy them enough to subscribe and support his work. And yes, Radical Reviewer is a dog. Its quite amazing.
